Ayurvedic Oral Hygiene

There are two oral health practices that are uniquely Ayurvedic. One is tongue cleaning and the other is oil pulling or swishing. The tongue scraper is traditionally made of copper but many people today prefer stainless steel. Regular tongue scraping can reduce the level of odor-causing bacteria in the mouth. Be careful of the pressure so as to avoid gagging. If doing both tongue scraping and oil pulling, do the tongue scraping first. Then, rinse the mouth several times with warm water. Then, do the oil pulling, again rinse with warm water or water with a tiny amount of lemon juice or apple cider vinegar. A single drop of essential oil is also nice. For even better results, follow these steps with a mouthwash or herbal rinse.
